Default heated mirrors?

hi guys,

does anyone know under what conditions should heated mirrors come 'on'?

Mine seem to be quite temperamental and don't come on unless I turn on rear heated screen demist function on... tried with lights on/off, outside temp. below 5 degrees centigrade to no avail.

any feedback would be welcomed... and btw, no errors of any sort re mirrors in VCDS.

Cheers

Only with the heated rear window. It seems to be a VAG thing.
I know BMW and Vauxhall ones come on by themselves.

Depends which model are you talking about. On D2 they have permanent power supply with ignition on and a thermal switch in mirror itself to prevent overheating.

And on the D4 they are controlled by the mirror adjustment switch.

But D3 is in combination with the heated rear window as stated above

Cheers guys... one off my 'to do ' list .

and to add... earlier on in the year and with air pressure hitting low points regularly due to heavy rain in Germany/Austria it wasn't much fun driving through tunnels on A9 .
