My track day, finally
Some will recall 2 years ago I won a supercar driving event (along with nearly every other prize, sorry) at the annual meet in Scotland.....
Well, after some extending and upgrading of the ticket I finally did it this weekend: As I sort of feared, the RS6 has calibrated my sense of power quite high up the scale, so its fair to say that nothing really felt that quick or unwieldy, but on the plus side I got to grips with them all fast and was able to enjoy my few laps. R8 V8 was as tame as I feared, but the R8 V10 Plus was a beauty in comparison. Defo the one to go for. 911 Turbo was surprisingly easy to drive, after all the horror stories I'd heard. It was quite stable and even the turbo shove wasn't as mighty as I was expecting. The aerial atom passenger lap was good fun, very raw with a great supercharger whine in your ear lugs  But my favourite of the day was the Gallardo, the only manual gearbox there which made it feel that bit more raw - It was the hardest car to drive and felt the most rewarding. I'd take the R8 V10 as the every day car for shopping in though, it was probably smoother to drive than the RS6 was.... But, in conclusion after driving many 100's of thousands of pounds worth of kit, I really would have swapped any of them for the stealth, boost, performance and practicality of my old RS6....

Out of interest Ian, were the cars generally well maintained? Friend of mine went on a very similar supercar experience day recently and reported back that he was disappointed to find that most of the cars were very poorly maintained ... knackered interiors, engine management lights on, various faults, rattles, etc.

My experience was similar (same cars, except I also had a Ferrari 360, from memory). None of the cars were mint, and the 911 was pretty shocking - old, with pretty worn, non-matching tyres. If I remember correctly, each car was owned by it's driver, so it was a sort of collective/co-operative. To be fair though, it didn't spoil the experience

I suppose it's understandable that they're not going to want to use pristine vehicles for this sort of use but still, part of the Supercar experience for me is the extravagant styling, both inside and out, and driving something with an interior that looks like something from a back-street car rental company would spoil my experience a little.

The Aerial Atom is entertaining, even as a passenger. . . when I went on one of these days the Atom driver had to wait until all the other supercars were about to come onto the straight where you join and then pull out in front of them so that he didn't catch them up too quickly, typically he had them caught in half a lap lol
