The Carding Shed, Hepworth (inc. The Oil Can Cafe)
Had a trip out to this place today after seeing it on recent episode of Car SOS ...
http://thecardingshed.co.uk/ Great place and fantastic food. Oh, and there's even a few small clothing and antique shops inside to keep the other half happy while you're looking at the cars Thought it might be one to consider for a local mini-meet or maybe even an annual meet. Didn't get much time to drive around the area but there seems to be plenty of nice driving roads (and it's on the edge of the Peak District National Park). And, for any fans of Last of the Summer Wine, I believe the area is also home to one or two filming locations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepworth,_West_Yorkshire There appeared to be a Jaguar meet going on when we arrived. An entire field had been roped off for them. 2017-04-23 14.11.53.jpg 2017-04-23 14.12.01.jpg 2017-04-23 14.13.21.jpg 2017-04-23 14.15.53.jpg 2017-04-23 14.15.57.jpg 2017-04-23 14.16.01.jpg 2017-04-23 14.16.29.jpg 2017-04-23 14.25.20.jpg 2017-04-23 15.24.58.jpg 2017-04-23 15.25.27.jpg 2017-04-23 15.25.51.jpg 2017-04-23 15.26.03.jpg 2017-04-23 15.26.36.jpg 2017-04-23 15.26.41.jpg 2017-04-23 15.27.09.jpg 2017-04-23 15.27.19.jpg 2017-04-23 15.27.33.jpg 2017-04-23 15.30.17.jpg 2017-04-23 15.30.22.jpg 2017-04-23 15.30.28.jpg 2017-04-23 15.30.48.jpg 2017-04-23 15.31.02.jpg 2017-04-23 15.31.28.jpg 2017-04-23 15.31.33.jpg 2017-04-23 15.32.18.jpg 2017-04-23 15.32.26.jpg 2017-04-23 15.32.37.jpg 2017-04-23 15.32.46.jpg 2017-04-23 15.33.14.jpg 2017-04-23 15.33.37.jpg 2017-04-23 15.34.31.jpg 2017-04-23 15.35.00.jpg 2017-04-23 15.36.59.jpg 2017-04-23 15.37.16.jpg 2017-04-23 15.56.00.jpg

Its like a larger version of 47P2's garage. What a great place!
You have to love the Hillman Imp. A novel (maybe flawed) design incorporating some advanced features dellivered as a pile of sh~te by the workers of Linwood....

Definitely good for a NW mini-meet, given that we've not had one for a while, and we've also had the demise of the German Classics event at Haigh Hall - when were you thinking Mark?

So I dunno, what do you think? ... the latter part of this summer perhaps? The annual meet is a little over a month away now, so maybe a couple of months after that. How about around August, September or early October? I've got a few weekends in those months that I can't do but if we start throwing some dates around, hopefully there'll be a weekend most of us can make. Apart from the cafe and the shops, there's probably around 20-30 cars on display at The Carding Shed (what you see in the photographs is pretty much what they have), so 3hrs would probably be enough time to have something to eat and see all the cars. To make it a longer day, we might wanna plan a bit of a sight-seeing/driving route too. For any Last of The Summer Wine fans, we could stop off for a drink at The Butchers Arms, which is less than a mile away from The Carding Shed. Another thing that might be worth considering is a garage tour, though we'd have to make enquiries about available dates. The garage area was closed and roped-off (though you can peek in) when we were there yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, but there were flyers advertising tours. I'm not sure if they do tours every weekend but they were advertising a garage tour for Father's day this year (which is of course a Sunday). The garage part is a classic vehicle restoration workshop business called IK Classics, so a tour could prove to be interesting and informative: http://ikclassicsandracing.co.uk/ http://www.classicandsportscar.com/d...acing-services BTW - Ignore my typo in the forum thread title; it's Carding not Carning. Can't seem to edit it now ..... where's a forum moderator when you need one!?

The Imp we had was very similar to the one in the photo except it was a darker blue and had a lot more rust. Sat in the back, I can remember being able to watch the road through a large hole in the floor for a while, until my Dad pop-riveted a steel panel over it. I do remember one good thing about the Imps (I'm sure there were more; I just can't remember any) and that was how the rear-engine, RWD design gave better grip in snowy conditions. In heavy snow, we would often sail past stuck/abandoned cars of the day (Cortinas, Capris, etc), especially going up hills. Mind you, it was the one and only time you were likely to overtake any other vehicles.

Hi All,
Just picked up on this, like it velly muchly. I'll be with you subject to dates of course. September 15, 16 and 17 are definitely no good for me, Army College Reunion weekend in Chepstow. OK I know, you'll choose that weekend on purpose, not that I'd blame you.

I'm probably ok for most Sundays in September so far but need to double check. Not sure about the last Sunday yet (Mum & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary!).

Looks great. I'm up for this
My first car was an Imp and I can honestly say I lost count of the number of head gaskets it went through in one year of ownership Correct about traction in snow David, its a little unfair to blame the workers. There was a flaw in the design of the (Coventry Climax) engine, hence notorious head gasket consumption. Nowadays we make plenty of great cars, the only thing that's changed.... The management. Look at me, coming over all socialist
