towball 13 pin socket
as with many other 8's my car is fitted with a removable towball , presumably factory fitted because the wiring socket is audi branded
under normal circumstances no electrical problems , but in order to hook up to a trailer with the old standard 7 pin socket there is an adaptor supplied and here my problems begin ; plug in the adaptor in preparation for connecting the trailer electrics and , lo and behold , the indicators on the car now flash at at least double the required speed even with no trailer connected ! even stranger , if I turn on the 4 way flashers instead of the indicators the flashing is at the normal speed m'aidez , m'aidez ! |

Check for a short inside the adapter. Or pick up a new one from halfrauds or a caravan shop

The adaptor should be totally passive, so if you have nothing plugged into it then it's faulty

thanks guys.....some research shows that if you don't remove the adaptor carefully and fully they can get out of line....to the extent that there exists a small tool to re-align them
think I will just get a new one as suggested! |

They are inexpensive so fingers crossed that solves the issue. I have changed my trailers over to 13 pin now, only takes 10 minutes to change the plug and it makes life slightly easier (and neater)!
