Default How much is it worth?

Someone wants to do a deal on my car but wants to part exchange a 4 speed 1996 A8 4.2 quattro sport. Green with ecru interior. It has been really well looked after with 5k spent on it in the past two years along with another gearbox from A8 Parts. It's done 206,000 miles. If I took it in part exchange I would only want to sell it on asap. How much should I offer the potential buyer? He sounds like an enthusiast so I would love for my car to go to him.
Not too interested in guide prices as I think they are fairly irrelevant when pricing these cars and I don't want to insult him with a £500 offer a la glasses guide.

Hmm thats tough, if you're not wanting to make any money from it moving it on then i suppose you can only offer him what you expect it to make and a car as old as mine with more miles is pretty worthless in todays market i would think. It's worth it's weight in scrap or parts if no one buys it. If he's not happy with the amount you offer then his only option is to sell it himself for more if he's sure he can get it and buy yours outright with cash.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but it's only worth what someone will pay for it. That doesn't help does it.

Could ask A8 parts what they'd pay for it to break and base value on that?

If you're going to sell the part-ex on that's fine... If you make a profit

If you can't see a profit, let the buyer sell it.

From your buyers perspective you are offering him a very easy, clean transaction, and he is likely to expect to pay something for this.
That's one of the reasons people part-ex at dealers, even though it can cost them thousands

It's a car that's all, don't let some savvy buyer exploit your emotional attachment to it.

Good luck

Thanks Guys, Neil convinced me over the phone yesterday not to go for a part exchange at the moment unless it was something I wanted personally. As the last thing i'd want is to be lumbered with something I didn't want. I've had a lot of interest. It's got 101 watchers on eBay! And it's had nearly 2,500 views. Someone is viewing tomorrow/Thurs and I've even got a guy from outside the UK wanting to fly in to take it abroad, wow.

Yeah, I think Neils right - Take cash only unless your offered a car you want to keep, oh, and make sure she finds a good home

Keep your eyes peeled for scams

My D2 S8 was purchased by someone in Poland.
He was working on an ocean survey and wanted it for a wedding prezzy for the bride

Yeah sure. That would have made an interesting gift

Anyway ebay wrote and told me not to (I hadn't). Since then ebay have closed my account and are still hassling big time for the fees on the sale that they told me was a con.
They've had debt collectors writing and everything short of bailiffs. Don't you love em

So Amar. Be very careful. Money paid into your Paypal account can be withdrawn. Drafts and Bank/Building society cheques can be forged.
Go for cash... and scrutinise it

Thanks Nick, this guy seems genuine enough from what he wrote (I'm very good at spotting these sort of scams) he will only be allowed it after he has paid cash, he also has very good feedback and is a D2 enthusiast. When I sold the 335 my brother in law brought this money checker thing to check for fake notes. It was 20k cash in a Tesco carrier bag from some young guys from Liverpool in a tatty old Transit so we were taking no chances!

Them debt collectors are a load of clowns, most of the time they are just trying to scare you into paying. I got two council parking tickets last year and I wrote a letter that made no sense asking them to proove I was who they thought I was and both times they let me off. It's just scare tactics, pay within 14 days and we will half the fine. P off. If anyone gets a parking ticket send me a PM. Many a loophole to exploit. My mate crapped himself and paid straight away saying it would mess up his 'credit rating' will it feck.

Dont be too put off to sell abroad-I sold my last skyline to a guy in Denmark.

He agreed to pay me to collect him from the airport-regardless of whether he bought the car, came over to view, bought her, paid cash an drove it all the way to Denmark. LOONY!!!

Poor guy must have been aching all over by the time he got home...it was a fully track specced skyline, most of the "bushes" on the suspension were replaced with alloy replacements

I will never forget this sale-his name was Casper lol
