Default Warranty - which one?

My A8L 3.0 TDi is coming on 3 years old.

If I'm keeping it then I think I need a Warranty as it's had a few things go wrong and I shudder to think of a major gearbox problem or AC or the vast amount of lecky kit.

Audi struggled to fix the Air Bag Warnings - it was in and out like a rabbit down a burrow. If I was paying for that I'd not be happy.

Also the keyless button on the O/S/R door has failed again!

New brakes and discs fitted a week or so back and it's making 'graunching' noises so I'll note that at MoT time - booked for the 12th.

So, the question is, where is the best Warranty to be had?

Audi quote about £625, Warranty Direct and Warrantywise are both over £800.

What do I go for - a new Merc instead?

Kia do 7-year warranties

I don't know much about them, but I would have expected Audi's own warranty to be just as good as the others, and if cheaper then decision made.

However, I have no idea if there warranty cover is as good as.

Audi 110%

I would have gone Audi even if they were £400 more expensive, never mind cheaper! Not much fuss with the Audi warranty, although it is underwritten by Mondial, you don't have to call a third party warranty company and go through that time consuming claims process. Just drop the car and they will sort it all out. I've heard nothing but great things about the Audi extended warranty but a few crappy things about every third party warranty company

It does look a bit of a no brainer but I'd have thought Audi would have been a lot dearer than 3rd party outfits.

As far as I can tell there are a lot of items no longer included which were covered in the first 3 years.

Still looks the best bet though.

Thanks for the input guys,

Stew,

Dare I say it but I believe Warranty Direct may cover more than the approved Audi warranty. As essentially they are both 3rd party...

This is becoming a can of worms

I re-ran the Quotes yesterday on the back of reading this Thread.

Car is a 2008 A8L 3.0 TDi with 38k miles

Audi want £625 you can specify excess - this cost is with £100. It's a £100 more with zero excess so you either pay it up front or with a claim.

Warranty Direct want £1437.50 (Franchised Dealer prices) - This was £800 odd last time I looked

Warrantywise want £785 with £150 Excess and limit AC/Catalysts/Air Bags/Multi Media/MoT failure to £500 per event.

Reading the Audi one it does exclude some items but I want cover for the big one - not worried about minor things. I don't have a lot of the items in the list anyway like Spark Plugs, Dist Cap etc., etc. I'm not at all worried about these exclusions.

Extract from the Audi bumph:

Normal service replacement items and other components subject to routine maintenance or periodic repair or replacement that are excluded are as follows:

* Aerial and co-axial leads
* Air cleaners
* Auxiliary belts
* Bonnet, boot and fuel flap release cables
* Brake friction material and discs/drums
* Brake pipes and brake hoses
* Clutch pressure plates, bearings and frictional material
* Core plugs
* Distributor caps
* Drive shaft and steering rack gaiters
* Electrical wiring, connection blocks, terminals and fuses
* Exhaust systems (although catalytic converters are covered for internal failure only)
* Fuel filters
* All hinges
* Hoses, hose clips and connectors

* HT leads
* Light bulbs
* Non-Audi original parts (or equivalent in respect of other makes) that are not of a matching quality to Audi original parts (or equivalent)
* Oil filters and gaskets
* Pollen filters
* Rotor arms
* Spark plugs
* Sunroof cables, convertible roof material and straps
* Tyres
* Wheels
* Wiper blades, arms, washer jets and hoses
* Parts requiring decarbonisation, burnt or pitted valves and valve seats

There's more.....

Warranty Direct phoned yesterday evening and asked if I was happy with their quote.

I told them Audi was less than half their price.

Ah, but you'll have to pay an excess he said.

Yep, I can or I can't, but it's not a £700 one says I.

I see on 'your file' - they keep a file on me?? that Yvette spoke to you previously, I'll pass the details to her and she'll phone you in 10 minutes or so, is that OK?

Whatever, says I.

Still waiting for the fair Yvette, or was it Yvonne to call
