4.2V8 overheats.
This weekend my car started acting up on me, if i drive for say 30min the engine temp goes as far as 120C and the electric fan starts when it passes 115C(ish).
Popped the hood and held on the tubes going to the heating system and i could feel it boiling. Is this a problem that CAN occur if the PTC heat sensor for the electirc fan is good on these cars? Or am i looking at a failing thermostat? |

In this cool weather car should be sufficiently cooled by just the viscous fan. It is most likely to be thermostat or waterpump. You are not loosing coolant right?
Is it 32V or 40V? Thermostat change on 32V is pretty easy and that's where I would start. On 40 V it's a belt off job. Sometimes thermostat becomes a bit sticky either because of it's age or because coolant have not been changed regularly or driven with water in system or if car has not been driven for long periods of time. In theese cases a knock on thermostat housing can free it sometimes and it works OK for some time

Yeah i know, but some cars tend to be sensitive anywas ;P I have a LITTLE coolant leak on the right side tube for the car heater. But thats nothing more than a drop a month or something like that.
It's a 40v. Have changed timing belt and thermostat on a couple of A6 (c4) with V6 engine, and as far as i can see the front setup on these two engines are pretty much the same. Regarding coolant change i really don't know if it's been done in the right schedule's since the car have two Service books, and they have been stamped and used totally random So i think i'm going to take a BIG service with all items ASAP, have to get the front of to fix my Webasto anyways |
