After almost five years ownership my FL D2 S8 has gone. (Rare that I ever post anything here as usually only surfing on my iphone and it's too fiddly).*
Always been slightly nervous about talking reliability but now it's gone, I feel it's safe to do so. When p/x it had just over 183k on the clock. Barely used any oil between services, original smooth fault free gearbox. It was on roughly 130k when I bought it. Non-service replacements have been radiator and viscous fan, central locking pump and rear brake callipers, the later probably my fault as I when I originally got the car I hardly ever used the handbrake and it seized.* The car was generally only been used for 80+ mile trips which I'm sure helped. I also drove extensively in tiptronic mode.* So whilst the gearboxes are clearly a weakness, there are exceptions! Oh yes, while I loved my D2, I'm enthralled with my Daytona Grey D3 S8 which has replaced it! |

WOW!
Great news. Any pictures? Tell us about it. Still early days I guess but how do you find your D3 compares with your D2

Awesome! You planning on putting as many miles on the D3 as you did on the D2?! That's pretty impressive on the fuel bill front lol
Am down near Bristol (my old home town) over Xmas so will have to look out for an S8 ![]() |

At time of breaking my D2 S8 had about 180k on it and had no issues.
Everything worked on it although it had a gearbox change at about 150k. I only broke it because it was worth more in parts and needed an estate so bought a 2000 4.2 A6 Avant. |
