Default This is bonkers

Went to Birmingham and back today.

Filled up before I went, filled up when I got back.

270.4 Miles.
35.61 liters
£50.17

Thats 7.84 Gallons in my book, or 34.48 MPG. This will include though fuel used by its webasto heater, and the idling I did this morning warming up and de-icing.

Was playing with sports mode on the way there, but DIS showing over 41mpg on the way back over a 3 hour journey.

Filled up when I got back, it said 775 miles left in the tank, and I wasnt taking it easy. Adaptive cruise all the way (you can drive more economically with your foot for sure)

Sports mode by the way is very good on this..... Never played much with the sports mode on a turbo. The RS6 had it, but that had bags of power anyway. Sports mode on this diesel seems to hold it nicely in the turbo-driven range of the engine, makes it feel really quite spritely.

It really does seem like this costs half as much to fuel as an S8 at the moment, although admittedly it doesnt sound as nice, but 99% of the time it goes plenty quick enough....

Last Sunday I went to Reading to pickup engine undertray from Sergey (notorious) in A6 2.5TDI about 100 miles each way and did 44.2mpg driving there 70-80mph and it dropped to 42mpg driving back slightly faster and included being stuck on M1 doing 4 miles in 2 hours. That's on the DIS but actual should not be far off. I am sure IT's is off because of heater which I don't have.

Dont do it Amar ! Ian is forgiven because he is an old yorkshire man and due to receive a flat cap but you are young and dont need to be sensible

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I've been getting my OAP for over a year now.

I could never afford newish cars when I was young so contented myself with Mk 2 Jags and onto XJ6s a bit later. Loved them but there was always something to fix

These young folks on her get it far too easy!

£3,750 for a 3 bed semi in 1970.

Petrol was 4 gallons (20 litres) for a pound and some change.

I was paid £1k a year - £20/week. Good money then.

Aye, these were the days!

Jaguar E Type was £1,800 new - nearly 2 years pay
