Default Cost of repairs??

Hi all, after alot of deliberation (and not having a reverse gear) i decided to shop around some transmission specialists who could deal with my problem.

I am based in the London/Surrey region of the country so thought i would go local first. I am in the motor trade myself but only to do with vehicle trimming/soft top replacement, etc. I was recommended to try a company called Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Spoke to a chap there called Bill who was very informative and sounded as though he knew what he was talking about and quoted me 800.00 - 1000.00.

This repair would involve removal and refit of the gearbox, replace reverse piston and possibly replace the 4 clutch (which is the extra 200.00).

Is this good value?? Has anyone else had this sort of repiar done and how does the cost compare?? Your thoughts...

Sounds like a reasonable price, though for not much more you could probably get the rest done. If you look on quattroworld.com there are quite a few threads on the F-seal replacement, usually by a guy called TozoM8 who seems to know more about these boxes than ZF

you could spend 800 - 1000 and still have a failed gearbox a week later.

If I were you, I'd go the extra mile and get a complete recon gearbox fitted for £2100 - £2200
