D3 Error codes
I have the following codes recurring after a clear down and although I know which component is reporting a fault I wondered if someone else could give me a steer o just what the problem might be please?

Dodgy auto door lock/unlock button, not too expensive to fix. I'd be concerned about the airbag igniter though.

+1 for door lock button.
Airbag igniter faults are usually bad connection in wiring connectors. Self test uses very low voltage to test igniter resistance and if the connection is bad low voltage does not pass through bad connection. Side passenger airbag would be the one in passenger seat. Seat airbags are the most common for giving faults as wiring gets disturbed by moving seat. Disconnect battery, wait for 15-20 min, check wiring, unplug and plug in connectors a couple of times, make sure everything is plugged in securely. Reconnect battery, delete error codes and see if it returns. DO NOT try to test igniter resistance with multimeter or similar as it could set airbag off.

Thanks for the tips...looking back over Service History it seems like the airbag has been a problem for the last couple of years
The Left Rear Door Handle Touch Sensor was cleared bit has now manifested into a rear heater sensor or something now? EML came on Thursdy, cleared errors on Friday but back again today Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- Last edited by GlynH; 6th May 2012 at 10:47 PM. |

Rear footwell heaters are the most common fault I've seen on D3 with 4-zone climate... Probably just crap components.

Just what/where are these footwell sensors exactly...in the footwell I guess?
Are they easy to replace and does anyone have the part number/price please? Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- |

It is a small heating element which allows the rear passengers to adjust the temperature irrespective of what the front temperature is set to. i.e. if the front is at 18c and rear passenger requires 20c then the heater will provide extra warmth at the rear. When they are not working (which as Richard says is very common) the rear passengers can only adjust the temperature upwards to whatever the front is set at, but they can adjust the temperature downwards.
The link is for a Phaeton but from my research it is a similar system to the A8 Scroll to page 28
