Anything Audi can do to 'protect' their IPR only requires time and the correct codes from somewhere to be opened up to the aftermarket.
I'm pretty sure there are EU Directives that require Audi to make the information available, but they may make a fuss about it or change their backoffice systems to make it as difficult as possible if you don't have Audi's own diagnostic equipment at a suitable mark up. Not really an answer as I don't know the ins and outs of it but aware of how it is supposed to operate.....

at the same time, the only way i can see this working is that the Audi computer writes to a component or "the" component with a correct checksum or information. If you were able to write to the right module and know the expected checksum or info it wouldnt be that difficult. on the other hand they may now just have access to the audi server etc with the right equipment.

I think if you have a genuine VAS5054 you can dial into the Audi servers and do stuff.

They will charge of course, but if it means you dont have to go to the dealers and argue about doing it for free or waiting 2 weeks for a booking , im in
