Default Great MOD: Convenience Indicators

Most modern cars come with "Convenience Indicator" feature: a single short tap on the indicator stalk makes the indicators flash 3 times and then automatically stop. Great for lane changes on motorways. I find myself usually blinking just once when I change lane and this kit will help me to improve my behaviour!

Someone has fitted the kit in A4 B5: http://www.youtube.com/embed/SfzH057npic

VAG supplies two OEM kits to retrofit this feature for older cars:

* 000 998 229 -- universal wiring harness
* 000 998 229 A -- vehicle specific kit for Passat B5

I understand all kits are based on essentially the same relay, just different harness.

I've purchased the "000 998 229" kit here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3603732700...ht_2381wt_1220

Perhaps direct purchase from TPS or VW dealership will come cheaper.

More pictures here: http://www.golf3.de/anleitungen-tuto...rtblinker.html

Will do a writeup for D2 when the kit arrives.

Hmmm, don't see the point myself.
If I change lane I indicate appropriately and ensure the indicators are cancelled when the manoeuvre is completed.

Sames as I do for any other use of the indicators.
(don't really have to think consciously about it TBH)

Those stupid BMW indicators that you can't cancel are a ridiculous PITA.

Or am I just "old school".

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Is it BMW who invented them? I noticed them on E classe merc in taxi from Heathrow two weeks ago and started internet search. Initially wanted to buy merc relay and install in my Audi, but found official VAG kit. I understand all new Audi's come with this feature too.

I just did this myself, used a programable piece from a company called Mcpii.com, just splice 5 wires. Works great, can program 3-5 flashes. I'm not sure how much the OEM retrofit is, or how it wires into the harness, but this was around 70 usd (about 50 quid) shipped to me. The thing to remember is that the facelift D2 has two flasher/turn signal relays, and the one needed to tap is under the driver side dash.
