Default Rear Spring just snapped on me!

Just pulling out the drive the heard a bang. Car drove OK ish but pulled over to take a look.

Rear drivers spring has snapped, looks like at the bottom on the last coil when it mounts onto the arm.

Damn thing, I thought this was an Audi not a Ford!

So new springs time, anybody got some floating about? if not I shall hunt the eBay and the net for some and get them fitted ASAP as I would not want to drive that far.

If anyone has the part number also that would be handy?

No need to upgrade or anything here just a good OEM spring needed (well I will replace the pair).

I am guessing its a few hours to do?


Car is a 2002 FL 3.7 QS

Looking at it now the spring has snapped where the two green painted bands are so its the contact point the end of the coil below, must just of worn away over the years.

Why do they not chamfer them off!

One of mine snapped last year. Got a good used set from the forum sponsors, and a local garage to fit them.

Did not pay that much, cannot recall as they did it as a favour for me. Took about an hour max to do both sides.

is it me, or is the metal cup the spring sits on missing from that picture.

This is what my broken one looked like.

Interesting point in regard to it being upside down.

I have no idea, but all I can say its broken now!

Still drives which is a blessing, though it will not be going that far!

See my edit, its not upside down as I checked back at a picture of mine and that was the same way up. However is the metal cup the spring sits on there.

The cup is there is just out of shot a little and the spring has move to the right a little.
