Default Gearbox reseal time?

Should I change prop shaft seal asap or should i keep on killing it for a while? I think it just started to drip on catalyst.

Because it involves removing exhaust, should I put it back or should I go for Milltek? I'm interested in quiet, 'limousine' version of Milltek if it exist... Or should I keep exhaust as as until it fails?

There's only 1 version of Milltek for the '8 and its what's fitted to mine (cats back) - I think it suits the s8 but it might be a bit non-limo if you want it as quiet as a factory exhaust?

Understood. Is the factory exhaust the only quiet option out there?

None I'm aware of, so possibly limited to the bespoke options. Some are far better than others but it's a real minefield.

I don't believe mine is any louder than a standard exhaust from inside the car, but is much meatier sounding from outside.

Anyone going to the weekend meet that's got a Milltek to try? If not welcome to come and play in mine if you get down to Gatwick area. I sometimes get over to Slough area on a Sunday but not that often.

Unfortunately not - I'm organising a racing series for 8th scale nitro off road radio controlled cars covering the South of England and running a meeting for 100+ drivers on Sunday in a field in Kent. With all the hassle of people getting booked in I'll be up to my neck in it (already am actually) so can't get across and back again, as well as prepping my buggy to race

Might be another there with Milltek? Are the pipe sizes etc the same for all A/S8 4.2s with stock exhausts?

I'm around most of the time so if you do get down this way any time just drop me a line and can arrange to meet up if you want to try mine from inside the car and see if it suits you.

Don't know if you've driven an E39 530i but the noise inside the car is about the same as one of those with a stock exhaust on it.

Cheers Adrian. Good luck with your event. I'll try to pop in some day as I'm based near Wokingham.

I tend to stay with stock exhaust and maintain it with A8parts used stuff I'm a big fan of quiet ride.

Adrian, what is the condition of your Milltek exhaust? I mean if you put car in the air and look at pipework?

This is what I've read on Milltek web site in Pedigrees section: "Milltek Sport exhausts are produced in high quality type-304 aircraft grade stainless steel."

304 is lowest grade stainless steel, which will not even remain polished and shiny if exposed to street conditions. This lowest grade steel will discolorate simply if I leave a piece of pipe outside my house for a couple of months. Forget about exhausts. Exhaust pipes made of 304 stainless steel will be completely rusty within half a year for sure. Why don't they use at least 316 grade stainless steel is beyond me if they position their stuff as premium product. I wonder if there are proper exhausts on the market that will actually stay shiny for lifetime of car.
