Default Control Arms

Well, I got an advisory on my MOT for 2 of the control arms and the car has developed a braking shake, as David's8 did. So I thought I'd get them all done at the same time.

I've had these pointed out to me and, apparently, Meyle are good stuff, but can anyone confirm (or otherwise) that these will also fit the S8?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A8-4D...item2ec866093a

My local indy (A4 Audi) queried if they're the same as an A8?

Thanks - Jim

Hi Jim

I've been very happy with Meyle stuff in general - got the HD upper arms on the front of mine, plus their rear discs.

I'm sure I've posted links before in my MOT advisory thread somewhere, but your best option is to first get a list of all the applicable Audi part numbers and visit the Meyle web site. You can enter the Audi part numbers and it will pull up the correct Meyle part number.

I know for mine a kit wasn't an option as it's on 20s from the factory and the front lower arms are different. Whether the rest match I'm not sure.

All German Parts are probably the quickest for delivery but Meyle in the UK are based down this neck of the woods and I'm sure will ship direct, or your service place can get them.

I'm on my way out the door so if you don't have any luck post back later and I'll try digging the links out

I was talking to my local specialist and he advised against getting TRW Lemforder arms as well - although Lemforder are OE the TRW versions he's seen are very roughly cast and carry no part numbers. The 'correct' parts with TRW branding are listed on ebay but I wouldn't take the risk.

Personally I'd order the Meyle HD arms you can get but buy the 20" specific arms from Audi/TPS directly so you at least have some come back if they turn out to be pattern parts.

The part numbers for the lower arms with 20" wheels are:

Lower fronts (item 7 on Etka screen):

4d0407151q (2 of them)

Lower rears (item 4)

8e0407693d (left)
8e0407694d (right)

Both sets of parts are specific to 20" wheel fitment, BUT I seem to remember one set are common to another Audi and Meyle do make the parts, but the other will come up as not recognised.

Update - I got hold of these guys and asked if they could supply a kit for the S8s with 20" wheels. They asked for my reg number and then confirmed that it had different lower arms. But they can supply the right kit with just 4 days delivery from Germany.

Gonna order and have fitted in August (whilst I'm getting my knee fixed!).

BTW - small world - I bumped into Andy from A4 Audi (the Glasgow Audi indy) on the plane to Bristol yesterday morning (allong with loads of guys in shorts and wellies!)

So they can supply Meyle HD arms for both sets of lower arms for the 20" wheel fitment?! Be interested to know the part numbers for future reference

Keep us posted when they turn up!

How do the lowers differ with 20s? I'm wondering if they're an upgrade of sorts.

I don't know if it is specific to 20" and non 20" wheels but the only significant difference that I know of is that there are arms with 16mm taper and 20mm taper for ball joints other than that they should all be interchangeable.
