Apologies for posting this, some things are not nice to see.
I have a morbid obsession with things that can go wrong on engines. Makes me want to replace my car's pads very soon. https://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/msgs/83599.phtml |

It's interesting that most VAG cars with the hydraulic chain tensioner set up seems to be a week point. The 1.8T certainly has the same issue (generally due to lack of servicing causing sludge build up and potentially blocking the oil strainer)
Goes to show how important regular servicing with quality oil is. Even though the quality of oil has improved massively over the years, I still think long-life service regimes are questionable. The same oil in an engine for up to 20000 miles can't be good.

Yes it doesn't take much searching to see many failed pads on A4's, A6's, anything that uses them. Even many Porsches use very similar pads and they fail too. Unfortunately Audi doesn't allow us to purchase pads separately, Porsche does.
I contacted Audi Traditions shop in the hope they would offer just the pads, no response. Completely agree about long-life oil chages. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere even synthetic oil was tested around 6k ~ 7k miles and was losing a lot of its lubricating properties. Last edited by Goran; 8th March 2014 at 12:34 PM. |
