Default Different brake disc brands

Hi.

Need a new set of 345mm discs for my FL S8.
Normally i would go for Brembo Discs but they are GBP250(!) each here in Norway i'm getting new from my parts shop in germany www.rexbo.eu

They have 3 different brands availible

Bosch at EUR200 for a pair

Bosch

Ate at EUR198 a pair

Ate

And finally the cheap discs by Optimal at EUR115 a pair

Optimal

Anyone tried or heard of Optimal before? their website seems pro enough(if that counts) Optimal HomePage

Their selection of pads;

Ate

Bosch Bosch

Any suggestions on a combo here?

Zimmermann drilled would be on my top of the list but they dont seem to make those in 345mm for the S8

Thanks

Ate is supposed to be top quality. Had them on Mercedes no problems or squeaks.

IMO, if I were going to spend over the odds on anything it would be on brakes. When you really need to stop, you really 'need' to stop. They are like a parachute, you don't realise how important it is until you need to use it.

With that in mind, I recommend for a fast road / occasionally tracked car of our power and (more importantly) weight Ferodo's DS2500 pads. I have the on my D2 FL S8 with B7 RS4 8 pot brembo conversion and on my custom build AP Racing oversized setup I had on my D2 PF S8. Try looking at the Black Diamond grooved discs. I stay away from drilled discs unless they are cast with the holes.

. . . and as some plank proved this week Mike is totally right. a white van man totally didn't see me as I approached a roundabout in swindon in my D2 and turned right across me at a mini roundabout despite it being my right of way. I swear if I hadn't had the big boy brakes on the front of my car that I swapped to then neither my car or the van would be in one piece today. .

You could order Brembo disc from ebay sellers, much cheaper than dealer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A8-S8...item25851c20ea

I have a pair of these, they appear genuine, so far work just fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not looking for the cheapest solution here so i might go for the ATE discs.

The Brembo's from Ebay would be nice but i know the freight cost to Norway prob is crazy(GBP19.90 for Shipping in UK) And Rexbo is only charging EUR17,90 for Everything i have ready to order(A loong list)

But the Ferrodo pads sounds like a plan, do we know what type of pads the S8 use?

Lookimg forward to rebuollding the Brembo calippers with the seal and dustcap kit from the stealership simce i believe at least a few of the postons dont move as they should.

For the past three years I've been using EBC Yellowstuff pads with their turbo grooved discs on my FL S8. The first set I had were truly fantastic, with terrific stopping power. I'm now on my second set of discs and forth set of pads and I think their standards have gone down as the current set I have are not as good as the first. Braking itself is not as good and I'm getting regular brake judder which is very annoying. The only way to cure this is to have the discs skimmed.

Has anyone else been using yellowstuff pads and noticed a drop in braking performance? Does anyone have constant judder issues as I have? I'm thinking of trying Ferodo DS2500 but the only supplier here in Dubai is asking almost 300 quid for a front set. Are the Ferodo pad worth paying this much for them?
