A8 LWB 3.2FSI 06 Plate EPC light and no reversing lights issue
Hey Guys,
New to the forum, I have the above car and have a problem with when I start the car it flashed red on the dashboard display and the EPC light comes on. I have to then go behind the ashtray and release the gear stick to be able to drive away. Sometimes after doing this the red flashing lights on the display disappear and it just highlights the selected gear....sometimes it does not though! I have also noticed that when selecting reverse with this issue, the PDC and the reversing lights do not come on. It definitely seems to be electronic and when I scanned via VAGCOM there was a fault about a switch that had an intermittent ground or something like that? Any ideas from you guys what it could be? Sounds like it might be F125 switch on the gearbox working intermittently - if you do a search on here you'll find much about it!

When you say 'it flashed red', do you mean that all the gear indicators where in red? If that is the case, then as Architex_mA8tey said, it's the F125 switch. I had this problem soon after getting my A8. Not sure how much they would cost new (if you can get them new), but I got mine from the forum sponsor. Give them a call, and they'll put you straight on which one you need, and with luck, they'll have one.

You should get it scanned for fault codes first to see if it reports any issues. If you do not have any means to do it yourself I can help out an I am just 10-15 miles from you in Rushden.

Guys,
Everything I have searched for on the F125 relates to the D2 platform, to confirm my A8 is the D3 platform. Tom... PS I have a VAG-COM interface with VCDS and yes it is reporting a fault with an intermittent ground on the switch....my problem is that I have no idea where it is or how to replace! |

On the D2 it's mounted onto the transmission, underneath the car, and not easy to get at. See: http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...chreplace.html
As for D3, no idea, but probably similar.

I have limited knowledge of D3 but I suspect D3 does not have mechanical link from selector to gearbox and F125 switch like D2. It's all done electrically and the switch is in the gear selector itself and has a different number F***.
What is the exact fault code you are getting?
