Are you looking to simply charge the phone, or use it as a car phone, or get music from it?

Those still cradles only charge the phone and connect to the car via bluetooth for telephone calls

It's rarely that simple. Best describe what you have in the car on the phone/nav/audio front for starters.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

that cradle specifically needs audi phone prep low pre fitted to the car which is a flat plate with metal connect plates on it that the cradle clicks on to - do you have that plate fitted to your 8?

That's what you need for the charge function.. but you are paying over a hundred quid for what a poundland charger can do for you. I put some USB connectors in the tray and a USB charger underneath to charge mine.

For music streaming you need AMI (assuming yours is MMI 2G as it's a 2008) and you'd need the bluetooth adapter, but that's just mono as opposed to fitting a USB adapter and a hard drive to it.

You can fit Dension Gateway 500.. Could listen music off USB, 3.5mm jack, iPod, cause it comes with 30pin iPod connection and it gonna charge it up too, and you can skip music from your stearing wheel.
