Default Audi TT...advice required

My daughter is thinking of buying a 2004 3.2 V6 Quattro 2dr DSG with around 70k on the clock

Anyone know of any pitfalls or what I faults I should be looking for?

Default DSG box potential issue

I'm not an expert on these, but the only potentially negative points I've heard about this car are about problems with the early VAG DSG boxes.
TT forum link here re: DSG box issue (same year, same engine as the one you mentioned)
http://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewt...p?f=2&t=137806

Also in car reviews the smaller engines tend to get better reviews than the V6, from memory because of poorer weight distribution/balance, but that's more a question of driving style/taste...

Chain driven, not belt and the tensioners, guides and chain can need replacing around this mileage - they can rattle like with the 2nd edition S4 NA engine. I sell the chains if you need them, but you really will wish you don't, as the labour involved is a fair whack pulling the engine etc. I would be moderately cautious but i have not heard of the issue to the extent its one to avoid, just now they are getting slightly older these issues are coming out.

Ans the DSG can give some issues but i dont know to what extent it effects them all - one hears about it from time to time.

It's 11 years old, any car of that age is gonna potentially have issues, am sure the TT will be no worse than most

Her plan is to keep her A6 and have the TT as an extra for when the sun comes out, so it won't be doing a lot of miles

There was a TT buying guide in one of car mags last month. If you PM me an email, I'll scan it and send it to you.

Is it this one?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01502241189628

Not sure those wheels are original - think they're off a Mk2 TT as my neighbour's diseasel TT has them

It's a shame this one's at the wrong end of the country for you - if mileage stacks up it suggests it's been a 2nd car for previous owners

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01502181061319

If it's a special occasion car I'd be tempted to seek out a run-out Sport model with the uprated 1.8T engine

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01501140162438

You lose the rear seats, but if you've got legs in the front they're no use anyway!

This ad has better pics to show the rear of the car, and doesn't have the massive winged buckets

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01502110866463

They look pricey for private sales and were manual only...

ETA - this one looks more local to you to compare
