If it's like other Audi's it should be a 10 minute job as it's a direct replacement. Although I've never done a D2... remove the intake ducting and remove the lid to the air filter box, this should be able to move out of the way a give access to the filter. Remove and replace with the K&N. Reinstall everything.

very easy indeed. just undo the jubilee clips holding the hard pipe from the airbox to the throttle body and the undo the 4 screws holding the top of the airbox on.

lift off lid.

remove the original filter and replace with shiny K&N.

all you need is a screwdriver really

Great, I think even I should be able to manage that. The sharp, pointy end of the screwdriver is the bit you hold, right?

AndyCaCa: I noticed your car open and possible S8 rummagings going on last Saturday morning on my way into the city. I very nearly pulled in to say hello but the look on MrsPhil's face when I mentioned it suggested otherwise.

Default Is it a k and n that has to be oiled?

If it is I wouldn't if I were you. They don't filter very well and also particles of oil get all over the maf screwing it up.

Far better sticking to paper filters IMO

I have read thoughts on oiled filters. Some say don't use them, others say don't over oil them and you'll be fine.

There was even a link to k&n's site where they had posted results of the oil in their filter had how it (apparently) stayed in the cotton and didn't clog up the MAF.

I think it is an oiled filter - waiting for it to arrive.

Air filter changed successfully, thanks for the advice.

If you knew how adverse and generally ham-fisted I am with car maintenance and DIY, you'd appreciate how much of an accomplishment this is for me.

I reckon that's untapped an extra 200bhp.

Not that I've noticed but then I haven't driven it yet. I'm doing a run up to Leeds tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see if it makes any discernible difference.

Meet:Anytime really.
