Replacing PAS Rack In 2006 D3 4.2 TDI
Hi ladies and gents!
I've got a 2006 D3 4.2 TDI, with a steering issue. When turning left, it's normal. Try turning left, and it only goes half way, giving a real nasty turning circle. The vane pump also whines a lot at this point, it whines too at idle, with the wheels in the straight ahead position. I think the rack may be bent (the car was front damaged). I am removing the rack from my 2005 4.2 gasser which is perfect. My questions are thus: Is the petrol 4.2 V8 rack compatible with the 4.2 TDI? Can the rack physically be removed from the car, with the engine and tranny in situ? From what I can see, the rack is held in place with 2 bolts from underneath the scuttle area. I've got the front end up on jack stands, but I can't see the bolts. Any help appreciated.

Sorry for late response but could be done in situe if prop shaft is loosened off and cradle for the gearbox removed im guessing you will have to dissconnect and slide it under the car along the tranny..
