Yes, patience would be the best play here. My rush has subsided.

I'm fairly certain the S5 idea is almost dead. Much as I love it, the capital outlay is top end of where I wanted to be, and that car, although fully loaded comes with a few imperfections and a butt of a salesman

I can't see me relisting when these adverts expire.

Last night opened my eyes to how good it is.

I know he came with 26K in mind expecting to beat me down on A, B and C. (as i would when viewing a car)

But in reality it turned into a dumb one sided conversation as he had no defence to his offer.

It did 21.4 mpg on the way to Birmingham this morning, which without trying, was pretty good actually.

And it sounds good. And goes better.

I'm not suggesting he should give it away( or i'd be on route to pick it up) but at the end of the day that grand could have been a starting point for a haggle, pushing him up a few hundred quid and giving him 1% off the asking price could have been a sale.

How many people honestly have ever given the asking price for a car?

No, I didn't sense he was going down that road. He was looking for a grand off, period. Bit odd on reflection.

All my buyers, and occasionally, I've paid full price if its something that really ticks the boxes. Its not that uncommon really if the car is 'a good un' and or niche/rare/desirable. I think haggling is more pertinent where there's a million examples for sale.....

Go see Oscar Goldman... He'll never discount, fill the car up, or necessarily wash it prior to collection, but its always a bloody desirable car which is why he gets the business at top dollar....

In practise, only if you were attempting to claim for a part which has suffered some sort of over-torque related issue I imagine, and then they'd actually have to bother to investigate it. Bar the high flow air filters hidden in the air box, it looks 100% standard to naked eye, and I have the original filters should the unlikely need to originality arise

Its not in the interest of the dealer to turn away warranty work is the general feeling.

Given that there are RS6's running 1000bhp +, running a 'mere' 700 seems pretty safe, and I'm not aware of any RS6's with engine or gearbox issues

It doesn't matter how much I type about it, you either have experienced it, or you haven't.....

I have to say, I agree with what Ian says in his last sentence. On paper, all these cars sound brilliant with their tons of horse power, but unless you've experienced them first hand, it doesn't really mean a lot.

The 3.7 one I have is the most powerful car I've ever driven, or for that matter, ever been in. At last years meet, I was given the good fortune of being able to drive the RS6 (Avant), RS7 and S8. I can tell you I was pretty nervous getting behind the wheel of a £93k car, so I was cautious whilst driving all of them. Despite that, they were absolutely fantastic to drive, and an opportunity not to be missed. That experience was made even better by those other drivers who also drove the cars when I was in it, and knew how to drive them (oh yes, Ian was one of them). I reckon Ian should keep the RS6.

Well, that was a while ago. And back then, my RS was standard. It was really very tame, as was the C7 we enjoyed.

I can't say I'd really mastered it back then. I can't say i'm a stig now, but I'm a lot closer

I got it remapped in September.

It was December before I actually managed to drive with Sport mode on the gearbox. It really needs a very sensitive touch on the throttle lol.

and later, I discovered that actually, sometimes a bit of wheelspin is the quickest way to drive. If you try and feather the power in slowly everywhere, you'll never get anywhere.

If I do keep it, I desperately want to grow a set large enough to let me try and master the ESP sport mode which allows a 'bit of slip'....

Sounds fun.
