So then the rear sensor threw a fault! So I bought a new sensor and connector, only to find that neither was at fault. The arm that attaches the sensor to the chassis has broken (see photo).

According to A8 Parts, it’s part number 4D0505577. Anyone know where I can get one?

I think MJ puts together an upgraded version you might be able to purchase.

I think that's the plastic arm and I have one of those on the front. The arm that's broken is the metal one that attaches directly to the sensor body with the two allen bolts.

I'm sure MJ made a 3D printed one. If memory serves, it was orange in colour, and wrapped around the arm. There's a photo of it somewhere on here, but not sure if it was just something she was trying. I don't have them, so it didn't pique my interest. I'll see if I can find it.

That was the front arm bracket, and it didn't work.

The rear sensor bracket is 4D0505577 and still available from Tradition so Prestige should be able to get one for you

I can stop searching then... At least I was half right, and not just imagining it.

Another question. In my photo above, should both ends of the curved plastic arm be free-moving? The end closest to the sensor is free-moving, but the other end is very stiff, despite copious amounts of WD40. Just wondering if I should drill it out and use a nut and bolt (as on the other end)?

It should be a free-moving balljoint at each end.

I had sensor issues too, so i just re-did everything with new Febi sensors, and the MJ-style ball joint linkages and sensor connectors from Sergey's thread and they have been working ok for the last ~3 years. The original plastic joints are crap imho and even if you get them to work with WD40 or whatever, they will fail again.

The calibration did require VCDS, (not vcds lite as it can't do it)

Nope, not that one; the curved arm top left in my photo
