Quoted a £90 increase this year for no apparent reason. Online quote halved the amount they wanted and when I did “the call” they just told me they couldn’t match it in any way despite it being the second car insured with them and they just said to cancel way to fight for my business!

£48 a month last year, got quoted 49-something for this year.

go compare showed 38, so i got back to current insurance and got roadside assistance added on for a total of £52 a month, i stuck with them because they allow me to drive other peoples cars insured, otherwised I would have went for the cheapest one

Was not there a law introduced a year or couple ago saying that they have to offer the same prices for renewal as for new customers?

Did the same myself with the house insurance. Ended up saving £265, so slightly less than last year. As B@fink mentioned, I got the same non-committal reason for the hefty increase.

There was indeed. Effective from 1st January 2022. The following page explains it well, and the comment by Martin that 'prices will meet in the middle' probably explains the sharp increases people are getting, as the insurance companies try to recoup some of their losses as a result of the law change.

Just done the Admiral multicar dance….quote went up over 20%….3 cars plus house. Went from £880 to £1080 back down to £950 after a long conversation. 32 years no claims, been with them since 008.

All good fun.

All of which is meant to be illegal now, existing customers are meant to be offered the same deal as a new customer or anyone else

I know this is an old thread but I can't immediately spot a newer more relevant one.
Just been playing the "game" today, having been away and only having under a week to go I know my options will be limited, but......

My renewal quote is 31% up on last year which seems outrageous, so I called in to "see what they (Privilege) could do". Nothing was the answer, unless I had a competing quote.

So then I did the "Go compare dance" and scrutinised the options. Followed one in some detail onto their web site as it was reputable and seemed to be equivalent - Admiral Gold. That was about 5% more than my last years premium; given inflation not bad. I could have gone lower but I didn't see the point.

Called in again, told Privilege what I'd found and that I thought the competing quote was at least as good cover, better in some areas, specifying exactly which company and cover type and the price. It took about 2 minutes for them to come back with a better offer, not needing any finessing of excesses or any other changes.
Their price was now just £10 more than Admiral which I decided I might as well accept. Overall about a 7.5% increase over last year. Acceptable I guess.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

My M5, the renewal in January was £2500 compared to £700 ish the previous year, shopped around and bought for £900 ish with Hastings Direct - I had one windscreen claim, first of any kind of claim for decades, but the increase is outrageous

The M340d is due next month, renewal quote today is cheapest quote I've had for it, £552 up from £473, that's a win after all the other daft quote of £800 plus, no claims, well done Aviva

Quoted the S8 today as almost ready to go back on road - down to £300 ish from around £500 previously, albeit not going with an agreed value policy this time, it was a waste of time - will be going with Admiral

PS I'd have told Privilege to get stuffed and voted with my feet, as i did to Swiftcover on the M5, as well as opening a complaint - got nowhere, but made them spend money and resource on it

I think the ridiculous increases are due to insurance companies writing off EV cars for the slightest bit of damage, and trying to recoup their outlay by hiking everyone's premiums.
