Default VAG's latest damage limitation idea...

…buying their dirty cars back from their owners, 'cos it's cheaper than paying US compensation

Last night I watched a really good talk about the Volkswagen emissions scandal by Daniel Lange and Felix Domke. The first half is about politics and business, second half about reverse engineering affected ECU and seeing how the code works.

It's an hour long and well worth viewing.

https://media.ccc.de/v/32c3-7331-the...eselgate#video

When the ECU detects it is in test mode AdBlue is used at a consumption greater than if in normal driving to clean the exhaust emissions. However, AdBlue requires a different air to fuel ratio that reduces performance and torque. Therefore to keep some cars competitive (performance, MPG, etc) and AdBlue refill in line with service schedules VW disregarded emission targets and hence the need for a solution to pass emission testing.

With reports of more manufacturers cars failing these tests, why are we not hearing more about them. If these reports are true, then the scandal isn't just on VAGs doorstep. Is the VAG group being made the sacrificial lamb, so that everyone feels appeased, and then they can all go back to cheating again once the dust has settled?

Default More of the same..

...this time from a (fired) US member of VW staff alleging deliberate destruction of evidence in the EPA enquiry. Not good.
