Great.
So. I suspect some recent work has been done on the breaks before my ownership.
The sequence I used to bled is not as MJ has suggested so will do in two stages.
step 1 : Bleed sequence as per MJ.
Test
If not fixed then.
Step 2 : VCDS sequence..
However....I assume VCDS will tell me what to do and when?

I haven't used that option, but the following post gives instructions (which I believe VCDS prompts for):

However, as MJ mentioned in the post I linked to earlier, this is only required IF the ABS pump was completely drained or somehow got air in it, and this bleed process is done through the front callipers only.

You mention the squelch from the ABS pump. Just to confirm, are you hearing it from the ABS pump area or from the brake pedal area inside the car? Can you upload a video of it, as it might help others diagnose the issue.
