Correct. It shuts down to save itself however if it has been working hard for a while (every start and driving say) then it can burn out which I gather is what happened to the old one. I wonder if the green pipe was the original culprit?

Hmm not sure but car was fine before if I'm honest. I'm currently looking at solution to remove the damage section of airline and re join it properly.
