Default Bentley repair manuals and windows 8.

As I have just acquired VCDS I thought I should get Bentley as well. Unfortunately, after downloading everything they then told me I couldn't run it on Windows 8. This is a bugger to say the least. I understand the problem lies with the eBahn reader. Getting a CD-ROM won't solve the problem as you still need the eBahn reader. Has anyone else had this problem and have you managed to get it to work with Windows 8?

There is no mention of this on the Bentley website. Their system requirements do not mention Windows 8 so I assumed that I could use it. Anyway, they have refunded my money. I have since asked when it will be useable with windows 8 but I'm still waiting for an answer.

For the time being anyone wishing to buy Bentley for use on Windows 8 - just don't.

Cheers

Steve

Strange, I haven't tried it as mine is already running under W7.
Did they give any explanation?

Does windows 8 include a virtual machine like windows 7 does? I can install any OS (xp pro comes with win7 pro so you don't need a licence) and can then 'publish' the vm app so it opens like any other programme

If Microsoft don't provide one there's alternative vm software you can buy

Sorry to go slightly off topic but are you downloading the d3 manual, I tried to order the cd but they cancelled the order saying it was out of stock.

If i could download one I would probably do that

Back on topic I would be surprised if the was not a virtual machine in win 8 to run older versions of programs.

I run etka on win xp mode in win 7

They gave no reason other than it cannot be used with windows 8. This surprises me as this operating system has been on the market for about a year now and it would appear they have done nothing so far to get things to work with it. They need to do something as they will be losing business everyday until they do.

I still haven't had a reply as to when they hope to get things working but it needs to be soon.

It was definitely the D2 software I was downloading. I initially ordered the CD but my order was cancelled as well so the went for the download.

For the time being I'll check out Windows 8 more thoroughly and see what I can do but not being particularly ofay with these computer thingies this may take some time.

ETKA have a similar issue in that it will only run in 32-bit mode. You sometimes wonder about these companies that can afford NOT to make their software compatible with modern OSes and CPUs.

Nice link, Delboy. The only problem is being totally crap with these computer thingies so I'm a bit flummoxed. I'll get a mate who knows about these things to help. Thanks very much.
