Default starter motor

Hello everyone. I have a problem because last week my starter burned out. It looks like the selenoid blew out the starter motor while the engine was running. As it turned out my son pressed 2 buttons at the same time start and stop. Moments later, I felt an electrical stench in the car, turned off the engine and the car would not start. So I pulled out the starter and it is clearly burned on the back of the starter where the copper cable is connected to the housing. I opened the starter and it just popped out. So I ordered a used one and put it on (without checking if it works outside) and no reaction even clicks. During assembly, I cleaned all connections with a wire brush to make sure connections were made. Errors on the scan have nothing on the starter motor. Could anyone help please

Depending on how awkward it is to remove, I'd be inclined to remove it and apply 12V across it to see if it works.

If it works, then according to the following page, there are two starter relays, which may be burnt out. Just search for the word 'starter'.

Yeah I did a new starter on one of mine this last week. Had to remove a fair few bits to get to it - not so much fun. Bearing that in mind, you should replace the unit. My cost was £250 for a factory Bosch rebuilt unit - there was no way I was putting a used or unbranded refurb on there given the tricky nature of the fit.
