The Etape Loch Ness event was fantastic, a few spots of rain and a little bit of a stiff breeze heading south, but stunning views all round. Apart from the Glendoe hill climb, the whole route is thoroughly recommended (even in a car), 5 miles from bottom to top of Glendoe, with good chunks of 10%+, quite pleased with my overall time of 3:49 plus just shy of 10 minutes of stops and a hillclimb time of 33 minutes.

If anyone is interested in such things, the Strava log is below:

Few days of rest with a recovery ride tomorrow before next weekend's 81-miler.

Well, the weather gods were on our side and with only a few spots of rain about half way round, it was pretty decent going.

Managed to bumble my way around the 81 mile course in 4 hours 29 minutes which puts me 1598th out of a little over 5000, so can't complain and well up the charts in the sprint and King of the Mountain sections.

a massive thanks to all of you who have donated, your support is hugely appreciated.

Read a few reports on the course, full of Sunday warriors who hadn't a clue about cycling and caused a number of crashes, hope nobody was seriously hurt.
5000 is way too many for the roads, it would be a better day out with half that amount but then the organisers would need to double the entry fees to break even.

Kind of sticks in my throat that none of the entry fees actually go to any charity, and for that reason plus 5000 on the road I doubt it's a sportive I will ever participate in.

Well done on completing it Richard, and a reasonable time, you must have been tucked in with a good group but even that takes a bit of work hanging onto them when they start putting the pressure on

Plenty of idiots out there, but getting off in an earlier bunch keeps you away from most of them. Tailed a couple of groups, but they tended to either be going too fast or too slow, so probably 60+ miles we spent on our own.

Start line was pretty chaotic, folks with 4000+ race numbers jamming up the entry to the gate so you couldn't get out in your proper wave, but apart from that, it was good fun.. Bloody knackered though!
