Looks like a good product actually

It's all very good replacing the broken plastic ones with indestructible metal ones but if the rubber flaps which puff up are still broken or faulty then forcing them to open and close by fitting metal arms won't do anything to help it.

Could you list the items necessary for this DIY project? Don't need them yet, but nice to have the information to hand at some stage.

If you don't mind blue

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/L799-M8-8m...wAAOSw3xJVbs-F

and 100mm of M8 stainless threaded rod to link them.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A2-Stainle...x3VN4lu7Q_r6FA

alternatively, less neat looking but less (or no) need for cutting (if its for a A8). find a 2-pack of the blue female track rod ends instead of the 4-pack above, to go with the 2 male ones below.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Go-Kart-Tr...NC8fc0vKtPj9Ow

check with seller that the balls are 8mm, should be going by the description.
