Default It's possible

Because I have a HBT I'm able to do stuff that takes a long time and is boring!
There have been several threads about economy of the A/S8s on here but I thought I would do a real world test. I normally fill up with VP or Tesco's Momentum but on a journey to London I used an ESSO garage because my DIS had been saying 0 for a few miles. ESSO do a 99ron and I shoved 87 litres in.
I then set off up the M5 to Bristol in cruise at 70mph on my Satnav and traffic conditions were good so I never dropped out. The DIS reported 29.7 by the time I got to M5/M4 interchange.
For the M4 I dropped to 60 and by junction 7 where I exited the DIS showed 31.4!

I think that the DIS is acknowledged as being optimistic and I still consider that mine is the ultimate ‘real world test’: every single tankful recorded for over 10 years now and, although I have never had a steady 70mph on cruise for any distance, the best I’ve ever achieved is a little over 23mpg (usually being driven, perhaps, a little over 70mph ) If anyone is OCD enough to want a copy of the spreadsheet......

My DIS on the A8L once reported a lofty 34.5 moopgers on a lengthy stint through the roadworks on the M1 a while back but I'm now doubting its veracity. A 4.2 litre V8 hmmm.

I've yet to get any meaningful figures from my current squeeze (S5) but I did see 4.6mpg on the dash when launching it (or feeding the onions). 50 mile range if it's a 10 gallon tank. Addictive, though.

Cheers
Johnny G

I wouldn't be surprised. On my long runs with enthusiastic driving I see about 25 on the DIS. Ill do it again with a top up at the other end and do the math.

I read the dash with great disdain.
Can't possibly be accurate.
I don't care, I want the ride so must pay for it.

S8 has become a work car for the last few days, one of which turned into a tour of some of the finest roadworks & traffic management that Beverley & Hull have to offer. Didn't remember to check the final reading but the DIS was showing 7.6 MPG on the way home

I am running my own spreadsheet and can concur! Best I have achieved is 22.4mpg on a run. seeing an 'average' of 16.8 with a mix of dual carriageway and town driving locally. Always Shell V Power /99RON

Get good per gallon though
