Thanks for the links. Didn't find anything for subtle, permanent installation.

Can be very expensive -- I don't care.
In your case, something like a raspberry pi or anything similar running on 12v in the glove box inc little hard drive plus separate mic and camera lens (poss build in to the back of the rear view mirror) ????

Default BlackVue DR400G-HD2

The one installed in my A8L is the BlackVue DR400G-HD2 and I'm very pleased with it. Mounted just in front of my rear view mirror, and wired into the 'mains'. I'm sure that the later version has WiFi playback to a smartphone. I have to agree that the BlackVue cameras seem expensive though.

The data from the unit was invaluable when my car was involved in an accident last year as it records 3-way movement and GPS co-ordinates/speed etc. and was processed/reviewed by the Met. Police. Still didn't stop them from keeping my car for 2 months though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I already jumped in and ordered the el cheapo one for £38.

It just occured to me, why doesn't TomTom, Garmin, etc build in a camera into their GPS?
I have to stick it on the windscreen anyway, so may as well have the dash cam in there.
In a way it would solve the problem Sergey highlighted about difficulty of a invisible dash cam installation.

How about an app and holder for phone then you can have phone, satnav and dashcam all in one.

If you're using Android, I came across one called DailyRoads Voyager. Seemed very capable with lots of features, but never tried it as I didn't have a mount for my phone.

There are probably loads more available, as well as ones for the iPhone.
