Default Little Big Horn

Having re-coded the locking to beep on locking, the alarm horn sounds really muted. A faint chirp. So i tried setting off the alarm and all the right things happen except for pathetic beeping from the alarm horn! Its not as if its dead (usually leaky Ni-MH battery) or whatever. I have removed the unit from the car and before I cut it open wondered if there could be any other explanation for the poor performance? I've tried giving it a bollocking -telling it to buck - but that didnt work.
Part is 8LO 951605 by Robert Bosch, Made in Australia and its not as if anything from Australia is ever known to be quiet

I never found the D2 alarm to be particularly loud, it always seemed pathetic. I put it down to the alarm siren being locked away in the boot which is practically sealed from the outside world. D3 is slightly better because its in the engine bay, but its still not that loud.

They are a bit pathetic at the best of times.

Mine started giving the low battery warning beeps occasionally a while ago, but doesn't any more, probably due to warmer weather. A job I'm expecting to do soon.

How easy was it to get out, there's a thread somewhere on it but it seemed rather tortuous as you had to remove loads of trim, is it accessible more easily?

1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Removal is a bit fiddly with the trims but Sean the Steamship's thread is excellent if you havent been in the area before. Takes about 15mins to remove trim and audio unit (mine has been all out before so was easy enough).

Have just cut open unit and batteries are gubbed and have leaked but not, so far as I can see over the PCB. Good! The thread on TT or tyresmoke has good info about replacing the batteries which are longer obtainable with an equivalent so just off to that thread to check out whats required. However, the batteries are only back up (7.2V) so I guess the horn is powered off the car 12V circuit so, if thats the case, why is it SO pathetic? It MUST be designed to be louder than the little chirp I am getting.

I don't have any audio stuff in the way now - all the brackets are removed and the CD player is now under the floor where the Bose amp goes (I don't have one) with a small Velcro-secured panel above it.
The space behind the removable panel is now totally storage.

So I only really need the side trim out, but does that really need all the stuff along the rear edge removing first as described in Steamship's thread?

The boot lip plastic trim needs to be removed as that covers the rear edge of the side trim. If you can remove that without the former then its a bit easier - but it isnt a big deal.

Afraid so. Once you know what things are being held in place with, they are a lot easier to remove. It's a l-o-n-g writeup, but doesn't take that much time.

Reminds me of when I got a proper alarm fitted to my first car, a 1.5 TD Vauxhall Nova. It had a wire that went back into the car as a power source, which I then fitted 2 x 110db piezo alarms to, hidden behind the dash as a surprise to anyone who thought of stealing it. It was deafening from outside with just one window opened to test it.

Heres some photos of the Alarm Horn. As can be seen teh batteries are corroded/leaking but, hopefully they havent affectede the board (at least, so far as I can see).
