I wasn't really satisfied with the transmission gear shifts and TC lockup after the ATF change so I reset the adaptation a couple of days later. Ran through what I thought was the recommended adaptation cycle (from stop to 6th gear with low acceleration and then coast to a stop). That improved things but still I'm not satisfied.
The shift from 1->2 is a bit harsh and then there is this issue with gear 3. It seams like I never really get a TC lockup on any gears below gear 4 and it is pretty obvious driving in the city on gear 3 (30-40km/h). At best the TC lock is activated but not locked up (according to VCDS). Doing a harder acceleration from standstill and up going through the gears gives the same result -- it's slipping on especially gear 3. When coming to gear 4-6 it's acting pretty normal. I've been trying to understand if the problem can be diagnosed using VCDS. The adaptation values for each solenoid valve can be read in group 73-77 and there are no extremes there if I pick values from the Audi SSP 385 (for 6HP19 gear box though). What I find odd is that there are no adaptation cycles for valve C, and only 1 and 2 for valve D and E. The lack of adaptation on 3 may explain the harsh 1->2 (brake C engages gear 2) but for gear 3 I don't see why things are slipping. Not sure why I'm writing all this but I guess that because no adaptation values are extreme or pass any limits (according to SSP 385) it's not possible to definitely say that the seals to the mechatronic unit are leaking and that things may get better after a more dedicated adaptation. Still, the problem with gear number 3 is the same as before the ATF change so maybe I should just bite it and replace the four round and the rectangular seals...

I had my gearbox serviced and asked for the 4 rubber tubes and the bridge seal to be changed. The place did a pan gasket and a fluid flush then gave the car back.
The pan then began leaking so I sent my car in to have another pan gasket and this time gave the place the 4 tube seals and the bridge seal which I ordered myself from ZF in germany. They tightened some bolts and gave the car back again. I have ZERO tolerance for idiot places who do not listen to specific instructions. Consequently my car is still leaking and will be going to a ZF specialist on the 12th. It will have an adaptation reset as well as every seal changed. I will report back on how this cures slipping. The solenoids adapt to low fluid or internal leaks so it should be back to brand new with fresh seals, fresh fluid (again). My car has 145,000 miles on it, and this would be its 3rd fluid change. (the first was ZF at 60,000 miles, the second was the idiots at 130,000 miles. I will report back.

Which place are you taking it to?

I'm really interested in your findings!
I took the car for a proper adaptation ride today. Followed the four separate adaptations in the SSP 385 and indeed, I got adaptation count for all clutches. It's quite fun when the documentation matches the real world -- was lacking adaptation on the clutch related going 1->2. After getting this in place, the shift was a lot smoother. Unfortunately I still see slippage, especially on gear 1, 2 and 3. VCDS indicates torque converter is not locking until reaching higher gears. What I see though, is that the TC lock goes from Open to "Torq. conv. reg" in the slippage cases. EDIT: Removed some stuff. REG mode seems to be a valid mode where some slippage (max 512rpm?) is allowed to handle smaller throttle changes. So, instead of shifting up/down, it slips a bit. Something about being fuel efficient. Also something that seems to be a hazzle when pulling a trailer... Maybe this is as good as it gets? Adaptation values are not out in the blue. Unfortunately I don't have the old values from before resetting the adaptation but as of now, no value is outside the limits. Still I'm thinking leaking seals may result in the TC lock not engaging. Anyone with experience on this?

Definitely NOT Mackies, that's for sure... based on his location 'down under'.

Which is maybe marginally closer for mcs, but still a very long drive!

Our national anthem has "girt by sea" in it. Quattro is good but not that good. It is impossible to drive abroad.

I have ordered new rubber thingies, new gasket to the tray plus another seven precious liters of ZF LifeGuard 6. If I get all the parts for next weekend, I'll give it a try. After doing so, I will run through the four recommended steps in the SSP. I'll report back later...
