Haha - it's my wedding anniversary so doubt i'll get away with it...i might try and float it past Mrs Oli18 after i give the valentines flowers!

I've not managed to do a whole lot on the car recently as I have enjoyed driving it to Holland for 2 weeks earlier this month. I did however go ahead and retrofit a couple of grocery bag hooks for in the boot so that it stops the weekly shop from flying across the boot on the way home :D

Part number 1K5867615 - there are eBay equivalents i.e. here - and fitted them last weekend to both sides.

PhYcHe - They are Delta Mics hub centric wheel spacers. They are made of steel rather than aluminium alloy - unlike my previous Eibach and H&Rs which were are about 2lbs lighter but i wasn't that bothered - the important thing for me was that it had the TRACK+ configuration where you first bolt the spacer to the hub and then the wheel on top rather than replacing the bolts with longer ones.

So another quick update on mods...I finally got around to fitting the CREE LED P21Ws and 501s, wiring and coding them as DRLs and OMG, what a difference. The photos don't quite do it justice but the difference is quite remarkable. It may be one of my favourite mods so far. It makes the car look much fresher, newer and up-to-date...and it's not really that old yet either!

I wanted to thank M-A8 for his DRL retrofit 'how-to' +++

Cheers,

Oli

Most definitely not! Have measured to check ;)

Have been a little quiet on the forum of late due to a house renovation but having had the aircon recharged twice in 4 months, a leak was attributed to a leak in the aircon condenser which had a significant stone chip.

A new condenser & £400 later and it's fixed and icey cold again :)

I just wanted to thank Dave@A8parts as they were brilliant but unfortunately my garage went with a local supplier in case the part fails within the warranty period - I think my garage will be using A8Parts for future needs though and they were very impressed with them +++

That's another thing ticked off the list.

Next will be a full front end resprayed from KDS - i had to book it 3 months in advance (they're that popular given their detailing expertise) and it's going in over the next 2 weeks.

If you haven't seen it before, Kelly@KDS became famous after doing this Audi A8 to S8 conversion. He is the wet sand master and having recently done a KDS detailing course with a mate, very very knowledgable..

Just dropped off the 8 with Kelly @ KDS just now for the front end respray...

...can't wait to get it back! :D

Oli18 24th June 2014 10:40 PM

So unfortunately the front end respray didn't work out. There had been a miscommunication and the costs we're going to be in excess of what i wanted to pay for it.

That said, I'm glad as whilst i still want the bumper done, I managed get some great results on the bonnet and boot lid using Meguiars' DA correction system (see here a great link explaining it on YouTube). I can't say enough good stuff about this system:

http://www.detailedimage.com/product..._1_lw_2462.jpg

Overall, when you get the Megs G220, special backing pad, cutting/finishing pads and cutting and polishing compound, the results are near perfect...astonishing given we're talking about a DA here, not a rotary.

It took me the best part of 4 hrs to wash and clay the car and then correct the bootlid and bonnet but it was very rewarding seeing the difference. It also gave me an excuse to use a new toy - a sun light - an absolute must in order to see the swirls when you haven't got the sun out.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3840/...bf45f49a_z.jpg

Some snowfoam action:

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3842/...ea0c0237_z.jpg

Priming the cutting pad with the cutting compound - this stage does 95% of the work which then is following by the finishing pad and compound:

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2927/...8497d4c1_z.jpg

A little video with sun-gun of half-the bootlid - now with swirls removed...+++

http://youtu.be/XYDlR-zP-_8

The bootlid done:

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3906/...f9b9b7d9_z.jpg

Bonnet - the right side done as you stand in front of it:

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2916/...69f0e9b9_z.jpg

Before:

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3840/...51f30bd4_z.jpg

After:

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2929/...2f7c49f4_z.jpg

Video with sun-gun of bonnet half done:

http://youtu.be/302L4nWDrlQ

The finished article:

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/...4e6ea50f_z.jpg

Overall, a big thumbs up from me on this system...Audi paint is hard as nails and so trying to remove swirls is always going to be tough - especially with a DA. This however is a great bit of kit and should suit the majority of enthusiasts.

Now just to do the sides and roof... http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...ies/buffer.gif

Hi,

Unfortunately, a previous paint job (pre ownership by Ian or myself) on my 8's bumper and wing had been poorly done and left the front end looking tatty. Poor painting, lack of shine and depth, over-spray, and the usual stone chips were all visible. For someone that loves his 8 clean and detailed, it's torture! :hammer:

Having looked at a few garages, I settled on a local one and just wanted to share a quick work in progress of the 8 looking sorry for itself as it undergoes its front end respray (bumper and wings). The bumper is being prepped and the wings have been sanded back down.

Getting the paint code for Audi Exclusive paint was a bit of a pain...the build sticker does not feature it so a few calls to Audi and Ingolstadt and we now have a paint code.

Once the bumper goes on, it will also get the new S8 grille fitted.

Watch this space :)

Oli18 7th December 2014 07:23 PM

Hi,

Well it's been a while but the time has come to do a service on the 8.

Tools needed:
- 32mm socket 1/2" drive i.e. like this one
- 1/2" ratchet
- Long philips head screw driver
- Oil extractor
- Oil draining receptacle (i have two 6 litre jerry oil pans)
- Gloves
- Paper towel

Parts bought and used:

- 10 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 ECT (designed specifically for vehicles with DPF to help keep them clean)
- Oil filter
- Pollen filter
- Air filters x2
- Front wiper blades

All service parts bought from TPS (and OEM of course).

The amazing thing about servicing the TDI, the oil filter is on top of V8 block right in the middle and so very easily accessible.

She should be good for another 12 months... :)

Oli

OEM parts:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7516/...13979c514a.jpg

Take off plastics around pollen filter and turn 4 screws 90 degrees to take the filter out:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7576/...9360486df9.jpg

Old filter:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7554/...f0c3e98879.jpg

Old vs shiney new filter:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7502/...64b8a71101.jpg

On to the air filters - use a long philips head screwdriver to undo the 2 airboxes either side of the engine, take out the filter and refit the new one.
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7556/...e097346383.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7515/...db0b5d296c.jpg

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8598/...aba86e3846.jpg

Refit with new filter and screw air filter boxes back on:
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8660/...5ca386b0c3.jpg

On to the oil change - first take off the engine cover and oil cap.

Then unscrew the oil filter housing using the 32mm socket and replace the filter with a new one.

Put extractor tube into the oil dipstick and pump out the oil. The capacity of the 4.2 TDI is 9.5 litres including the oil filter.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7499/...a68844fc59.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7559/...f9bf5b2e9a.jpg

Then refill with new oil until it is just below the 'maximum' mark on the dipstick.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7480/...8f1355d1_m.jpg

Lastly, replace wiper blades and go enjoy a spirited drive! :D

madcjd 10th December 2014 12:28 PM

I think your car looks gorgeous in that colour blue and the chrome/aluminium mirror caps really compliment it.
I've recently purchased a 2005 night blue 4.2tdi and the second thought that came into my mind was "it's crying out for some chrome/aluminium mirror caps" (just like I added to my Santorin pearl Blue D2). The first thought was "it needs new wheels!".

Q. Apologies if you've already put this on the forum, but, where did you get those caps from and how much did they cost?

BTW - good to see you are using genuine bits for your maintenance!

I'll need to do mine soon.
