Default How to remove Audi A8 D3 mirrors

Hi,

These are the steps to follow if wanting to change the mirror covers on your D3 A8/S8.

Thanks,

Oli

Parts needed:
- S8 mirror cases: 4E0 857 507 (left), 4E0 857 508 (right)

Tools needed:
- Plastic tool to take mirror off without damaging the mirrors cases
- T10 Torx screwdriver
- Microfibre towel

Step 1: Remove mirror using a plastic tool that wont damage the paint work. Just place it behind the mirror as per the picture and push it out

Step 2: Wrap the mirror in a microfibre so it can rest against the door without damaging it. You can get away without disconnecting any wires that are connected to the mirror.

Step 3: Undo the 3 highlighted screws using the T10 torx

Step 4: Unclip green connector and take out the swivel mount

Step 5: Undo the 3 black screws (red) and push back the 3 clips (yellow)

Step 6: Carefully slide off the mirror housing.

Step 7: Put on the S8 mirror housing and put back together in reverse order

Thanks, I have more confidence to try and take my glass out and lube the mechanism behind, because when I adjust them they bind and jerk a bit.

Something else to be added to the todo list now, your mirror glass seems quite central in the housing where mine is touching the bottom of the housing.

Is it housing final position adjustable?

This is on my to do list.
You seem to be able to get replacement covers for £160 ish. Audi ones are 3x that price, which seems insane as they are just moulded plastic. I think (?) D2 ones were actually alloy, so I could understand the price for that. Even £160 seems steep considering , it appears that if I painted my old mirror covers, I'd get the same look.

So, that's what I'm going to do.

Photos to follow when done.

I always thought that the D3 S8 mirrors looked painted with something rather than actual aluminium. Spraying them or even alloy effect vinyl wrap would be cheaper I guess.

Good idea - I might try a wrap first. If it goes wrong it's just a few quid.
