Hi, I'd like to fit my dashcam which has a cigar lighter plug. The socket in the front center console doesn't workat the mo so will have to sort it.
Has anyone found a better way of powering a dashcam on a D4 or suggest a small/angled 12v plug so I can perhaps use the rear console socket which has restricted access? Thanks Steve |

In my D4 I used a power source from within the housing behind the rear view mirror. I'm sorry but I can't remember which wires I connected it to, but I discovered them with an online search if that helps.
The housing is released by unscrewing a bolt located inside the sunglass holder. I dismantled the dash cam's fag lighter plug and wrapped the workings with insulating tape. It fitted it easily inside the housing. Plenty of room in there. Good luck Nick

Check out the following thread. I've provided the link to where the OP shows how the dashcam was wired in:

Quick question - if the dashcam is wired to a permanent live then I assume it records all the time. That can't be good...?

In that thread I linked to in post #4 above, they mention about it being a permanent live, which is what some people prefer, so that its recording even when parked up. Obviously there is going to be a power drain, but that doesn't appear to be an issue for them. Finding a switched live in that area does seem to be the major issue. Horses for courses I suppose, and also depending on the type of dashcam.

There is a non-permanent live in there which is what mine is connected to.
