Default Removing RNS-D unit to fix flickering screen

My RNS-D screen has developed slight ghosting and occasional flickering:

I understand by simply playing with the plug to the back of the display it may fix the issue but I can't see how to remove the unit from the dash.

Am I going to need some removal keys? Or is it by unscrewing these torx bolts or something else?

You need four keys (Can't remember if you could maybe even manage with 2?)
They slot in on the front face of the unit in each corner. I think from memory, the right hand side slots are under the navigation button and above the wee flag button at the top. Similar for the left hand side.
I got a set of 4 keys on ebay for about £3 (albeit a few years ago)
Hope this helps.

The slots are exactly where Titan said, and can be seen in your last photo. Prices have gone up since I bought mine in 2013, but the following is what you're looking for:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3512068270...050%26_rdc%3D1

These are in the UK, but may be available elsewhere if you don't mind the wait.

But you lose the DIS display in the instrument cluster - the best bit of the sat nav IMHO.

As said above, just removal keys in those thin slots and you really do need four!
No need to remove any trim either.
IIRC you have the curved side of the keys outwards and flat side towards the screen, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Try one and if you can pull it out again it's the wrong way round!
This guide will help with taking it apart: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Disasse...lus+unit/12405

Remove the keys after you've pulled it out, you can't get them out otherwise and don't want them in to reinstall.

Agree, and the main reason I never bothered to upgrade mine.

Watch out for dodgy quality removal keys on ebay - some won't lock into place properly and if they're not locked in the unit won't be coming out!

To remove the keys with the unit out of the car, you press the spring in on the side, at each corner of the unit, and they ping free. Don't try yanking them out - all you'll do is bend the key!

I have loads here but probably a bit far to come just to remove the stereo!

Ordered an Xcarlink USB/AUX/SD card unit today anyway so I'll see how I get on with that. It also comes with removal keys so that should do the job. Considered the RNS-E upgrade but I also like the instrument cluster display of the nav.

Think I'll probably get round to doing the upgrade still anyway.

I have a sneaking suspicion (remembering back to the one I bought) that it only comes with 2 keys.

When you install the XCarLink they supply a short cable that splits the big connector on the back into 3 parts so that you can "loop in" on the CD sub-section to connect the XcarLink loom.
Look at the plug on the car loom and if that is in 3 parts (red yellow blue IIRC) you can just split that and not use the additional cable.
That saves space behind the RNS, space that is already very tight and you're adding cables to.
