Firstly I'm no mechanic, so apologies for the dumb questions and the lack of understanding of how cars actually work. I only drive them
![]() Following on from a post about the gear selector lights all on and difficult gear change, it was suggested I get the car scanned. Got it done earlier this evening, and have the results. It listed quite a few, so sorry for the long post. So far as I can tell, the car runs great. It turns over instantly and sounds sweet as. I think the performance is great, but then I've never driven a 3.7 V8 before. Fuel consumption averages 25mpg. Drives fine at all speeds, from town to motorway, and cruising at 80mph for a hour or so. S mode's brilliant when overtaking. No issues with brakes that I'm aware of. Alarm horn definitely doesn't work. No issues with radio or navigation. The only issues that I am aware of that don't throw up an error is that something is blowing the fuse for the interior lights - can replace it, but will blow 24-48 hours later. I also have a small rattle from the drivers door and noticed the other night that the rear window isolation switch was flickering, so that may be the culprit. However, I suppose what I'm looking for is any pointers on what to attack first. Obviously the engine codes are priority, but could one be a knock-on from something else? |

You have a note of the codes. Good.
![]() Unless you have an obvious, immediate and urgent problem just clear them all. Then check again a few days, then weeks later and see what returns and how frequently, noting and clearing each time. For example, on my current car I get an intermittent warning about the central potentiometer on the heating controls (the cold/warm one by the 3 central vents) - who cares! And I occasionally get one you have: 01119 - Gear Recognition Signal 35-10 - - - Intermittent, which apparently can have a multitude of causes, often related to the ABS system.

The stiff gear change when parked on a hill is normal. The park setting is a mechanical interlock where a cam physically locks into one of the cogs. If you are on a hill and there is even the smallest amount of creep the cam will become hard up against the cog tooth. Try putting your hand brake on. Stopping the engine then select park when facing both up hill and down hill. HtH.

A quick follow-up on the codes. Visited a mechanic yesterday to see if he would do a service on the car. We went through the list and he cleared all the codes. Just did another scan and most have stayed away. Still getting the following though:
Address 01: Engine Labels: None 17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S1 P1113 - 35-10 - Internal Resistance too High - Intermittent Readiness: 0010 0101 Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 01V-927-156.lbl 17090 - Transmission Range Sensor (F125) P0706 - 35-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent Still have the ones at addresses 35, 37 and 56 but not worried about those yet. So, I've ordered the F125 switch from A8parts and getting a full set of filters for the service. I've also decided to get the transmission seal replaced as I've noticed a burning smell. The question is should I replace the lambda sensors as well since the mechanic will be working around that area of the car?

I would change both pre-cat lambdas. I had the same lambda code on one bank, changed it, then a month later the other bank lambda started to go too. May as well do both at once.
On my new S8 the Secondaty Air Injection pump, used only to warm up cats on cold start (to reduce emissions), also doesnt work, I get the same code intermittently. Personally I'm not goint to repair it as I think its pointless. I asked MRC tuning to code it out and then I'm going to rip that crap out of there ![]() Also going to get post-cat lambdas coded out too at the same time. Did you know pre-facelifts have none of this rubbish, no SAI, no post-cat lambdas. |

Heyas,
Sorry to resurrect the thread, figured I'd use it instead of opening a new discussion. The same fault code appeared recently out of the blue on my FL A8: 17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S1 P1113 - 35-10 - Internal Resistance too High - Intermittent Could this be linked to the fact that because it was whining quite loudly every time I started the car up in the cold, I removed the SAI? Cheers |

No. Heater element in lambda sensor is faulty or poor connection in wiring.
