First of, it'd be great to know what the kit is. The guy has posted this on one of German forums, everyone got excited, but he didn't provide any sort of description/explanation.
It seems for me the core kit is non-VAG (including the start-stop button). That 3rd partly kit can recognise genuine Audi key with keyless feature. The kit is integrated with standard A8 D2 central lock (this is easy part). I think Audi standard immobiliser is disabled (i.e. immobiliser capsule was removed from old key and glued somewhere close to immobiliser antenna, so that instrument cluster always thinks the key is in ignition).

The keyless go is very likely an aftermarket system like Notorious suggested, especially listening to the non-Audi chirp.
I'm more interested in the power boot lid. How is that done? ![]() |

The best I could find on this was from the following forum: http://www.a8team.pl/d2-all-otwierni...nej-vt9074.htm About half way down, someone quotes from another forum (in German). I put it through Google Translate, but it doesn't give any real detail on how it was all achieved.

Very broad searches and I gathered that it may be an aftermarket keyless/push button start system which interfaces with an OEM audi Smart key and the factory D2 lock system.
Auto trunk/boot appears to be a custom job using Mini parts. The electronic interface with the trunk is part of the aftermarket system too. Will dig more into this. Unless something awful happens I will be picking up an 03 S8 this weekend and this first on my list of things to do. |

I had a Clifford intellistart on my C5 RS6 - A total gimmick, but I confess I loved it. It gave full remote start / stop capability to the car. I could stand in my living room and listen the V8 grumble into life. Never tired of doing that
![]() Under the covers, it used a lot of hacked wiring and a spare key strapped inside the dash to defeat the Audi immobiliser. That was back in 2008. Its not much of a stretch to have a start / stop button instead of a remote control, and likewise proximity keyless isn't really rocket science. If you can have the immobiliser permanently disabled or mated with a key, then starting the car becomes no more complicated than some constructive 80's style hotwiring.... Insurance would likely be unhappy to cover such DIY mods for theft I imagine, but the Clifford kit was fully approved as it was an immobiliser itself.
