Beware of Smart Phone SatNav
Hi,
A very technical point is that a "phone" is classed as " a device capable of making or receiving a a phone call". So touching your smartphone to use the free SatNav software on it actually is touching a phone while driving. Touching is using. That is breaking the law...  The police officer will doubtless listen to your explanation that you were not phoning but could do you... Robert. ( ex Magistrate, got too busy at work).

So interestingly.. My entire MMI system could be seen as a phone.. Or maybe even the car itself as it can make calls using its built in SIM...

Touching phone
Hi,
Interesting points here... One case involved a man reaching to his BlueTooth earpiece to answer a call. Not the phone. Done. Sorry man! Can the divice AutoAnswer? Voice activated manual answer? No? Careful then... A wider point is that although car enthusiasts (especially A8 folks) can handle a phone, cup of coffee, 4 wheel drift... LOTS of drivers cannot. Oh, and can we? always? I want to stop those drivers hitting me / mine / you / yours.  I don't know how to stop them without(probably...) competent people losing their rights to do something... What I am concerned about is the LACK of policing of mobile use, bad driving, in fact anything that a camera system cannot do... We all must see stuff we WANT them doing for; don't we??? Robert
