Well I checked three 2002 S8 clusters, two of which came from FEs, one of those FEs being the sister to your car. All 035BA.

It has been a while and remembered I said I would update this thread.....

Below image taken when working on the ABS..... as you can see. But shows the centre DIS all fixed.

It has taken an absolute age to find a company to do this (after contacting three 'recommended' companies to no avail)

Company that fixed this is:
TOTALTRONICS
www.totaltronics.com

It was not cheap! The centre DIS had to be sourced from Italy in the end.

It must have been, as they don't even list the A8/S8 on their site. So, how long was the car out of action, since you had to send the cluster to them, and they then had to wait the part to come in?

The cluster I replaced three years ago doesn't suffer from pixelation, but has now developed the other issue of fading displays due to heat. However, I tend to have the temperature below 20 and have the sunroof on tilt for additional airflow.

The first process was a deposit for the LCD screen sourced from Italy. Once received they then contacted me to ship. From receiving and sending out it was 24hr turnaround so all in all it was within a week to have the whole thing rectified.

Apparently it was one of the most time consuming cluster repairs but I am happy. total cost £380.00

Excellent turnaround. Expensive, but at least it's fitted with a brand new part, and not a 20-year old second-hand one.
