I feel quite an affinity for the Murple S8 - it's almost like a sister car to mine, with extended leather door cards in a similar state. Alcantara roof too, and a number plate very close to my originally-registered plate of W208 EWL. Looks like an Oxford registration, if I'm correct.

Mended, for £1
This is the problem - a burned contact in the F125: This contact is slightly misaligned so was never making a proper connection with its counterpart and had burned a slight hole. I straightened it out and cleaned the surface up with 1000 grit paper, greased this and all the others with contact grease and reassembled it. Mike then helped me fit the repaired switch on Saturday and it now selects gears and drives round the yard just fine Its not quite roadworthy yet though since it leaks oil enough to embarrass BP Everything is dripping underneath including both manifolds and both cats and it visibly smokes while idling! Its mostly coming from the cam covers so it'll need a thorough clean and then new cam cover gaskets so I can see what else is leaking. It also needs front upper control arms and a CV boot so a little bit of work still to do. |

Is that all you spend on drinks for Mike when he helps?
The more I hear about F125 switches, the more I think that every D2 gearbox issue needs the F125 looking at first!

DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

I possibly should have clarified that the pound was spent on bolts to hold the F125 back together after I drilled the rivets out
Quote:
If it goes in to limp when it moves, or tries to move, its something internal - usually a clutch pack or hydraulic issue. There are a few edge cases like when a contact came adrift in Neil's which caused no-start and other oddities, and water ingress like I had with General Vod which caused pretty much every TCU code imaginable! Mostly though its F125 or clutch packs. |

Lots of heinous bodging on this car unfortunately Can't get the control arm bolts out? Never mind - just drill a sodding great hole in the floorpan
Not surprising that the same muppet who did this failed to fix a duff F125 by fitting a second duff F125 |

Awesome, that's made my day. Didn't think to cut the blot instead of the CAR!

Quiet in here today so a small update on this. I swapped the fuel filler door for a good one from Prestige
Its a very slightly different shade as it's been painted, but its better than the original! Doing some tinkering under the bonnet I discovered this: Clearly 'lifetime air filter' translates to 'never look at the air filter again' according to most mechanics Straight in the bin with that and a stock paper filter fitted instead. |
