Hope everything works out Jim, as another option could the breakdown folks recover it to A4Audi for you?

Also you are probably aware if your FIL intends driving, the hire company will need to see his licence for insurance purposes when you pick up the car

cheers

Brian

Recovery to A4 Audi is an option under consideration

Latest update - the car is open!

My father in law has a local autoelectrician who managed to get the boot open (it had stopped even opening that) and "b******d aboot" with the pump and opened the doors. Key still doesn't work though, so he's taken that away to check it out.

So I'm standing by with the spare key ready to stick that in express post if the other key is beyond mending.

Can anyone think what may have happened to explain the following sequence of events:

1. Car would not lock with 'blipper' but had done so a few times earlier the same morning
2. But it did lock with the key
3. An hour or so later, it would not unlock with 'blipper' or key
4. But the boot did open OK with the key
5. When trying to open the doors with the key, you could hear the central locking pump motor going
5. Eventually, the boot didn't open with the key (until the guy "b******d aboot" with the key and blipper)
6. Car doors opened when the pump was fidddled with, but key still won't open doors
7. BTW the alarm doesn't seem to arm when the doors are locked with the key.

Brian - you are such an honest person! FIL lives a mile or so from the drop off point - we'd planned to not even let them know he wasn't me - if you see what I mean

Now that's a possibility I suppose.

Next update - the car started, but the key still won't open the doors. So now away to the workshop....

...next thrilling installment soon

Jim tried ringing but couldnt hear you, offer still stands, could take you later today or Tues or Wed, but after that would need to be weekend, save you messing about with hire cars etc, let me know what you think

Brian

My phone is locked in the car and switched to auto-answer! My specs are in the same place, so I'm wearing Primark reading glasses.

To make things more complicated, I'm away Tuesday and Wednesday, have to pick up parents from the airport this evening, seeing friends in Edinburgh on Thursday and have additional guests coming on Friday. And a Christening on Sunday!

Just got a quote to have it delivered home and, as my insurance covers it, I think That's what I'll do when it's fixed.

But that is a seiously kind offer mate!
