I do support this Amar - Each to their own on whether a manual conversion is a good idea, but i do concern about fiddling / messing / altering the peddle assembly.

Imagine driving a car where the brake / clutch or throttle suddenly detaches and / or becomes unresponsive....

Its a little pessimistic I know, but there are some serious forces applied by feet through pedals, and nothing short of a factory-strength installation is going to be safe imo....

Not dissing the conversion concept, just want everyone to be safe

Also, if I'm not mistaken. The Audi peddles are made to break away from factory in the event of a crash so your feet don't get crushed when you are forced into them.

Default pedal box????

The engine/gearbox have to come out anyway from this s8...and while it is out I ll get a friend to have a look....I will be incredibly surprised it there isnt a factory spec set of pedals that cant be fitted....and a huge shame if that is the main stumbling block.

I agree the automatic gearbox is a better luxury option in the s8, however I just like the idea of the control that manual gearboxes give combined with the comfort of luxury saloon.

I would never dream of doing this to the Reffro's final edition S8....but if I m gona be pulling an engine/gearbox it gives me something to dream about....

From what i remember the D2 S8 Tipttonic box has a weight about 145kgs dry. A Manual gearbox prob less then half.. That alone is a good enough reason for me to go manual.. And the fact that Autobox'es are for grandparents it also reduces 0-60 with quite a bit.(found a webpage not long ago that i think stated 0.5 sec faster with manual?)

But then my S8 is LHD so the clutch issue is less important.

Can anyone confirm that the pedal plate(holding the pedals) is actually the same for LHD Automatic and Manual? from Etka that is what my eyes keep telling me

Sorry, yes I meant 2nd/3rd June, got my dates mixed up.

SilverS8, yes I may sell you one of the LHD pedal boxes, I managed to get two before I realised they wont work in a RHD car. One is for cable operated gas pedal the other is for fly-by-wire pedal.
I'll bring all the pedal boxes with me to the owners meet so everyone can have a look how they compare to each other.

I weighed my 01E on bathroom scales without clutch, it weighed 75kg. Thats a 70kg weight saving compared to the auto box.
For me a manual is a must also, because I love taking the car on holiday to Europe, and I just dont feel good about risking another long trip with the auto box. Plus with the 0.56 6th gear its going to be a lot more efficient.

Does anyone know where the A6 brake booster attaches to the A6 C5 pedal box?

I have noticed 2 possible locations on a picture from A8 parts.
I'm trying to decide if its worth buying a A6 pedal box.

As I've stated earlier, the C5 A6 pedal box carries an 8D0 prefix, so it's the same as fitted to B5 A4. The brake booster on a C5 A6 attaches to the pedal box the same way it does on a B5 A4 and B5 Passat.

All completely alien to a D2.

We had a look at D2 and C5 pedal boxes at A8parts open day and they are way different not similar at all. Having had a look at dismantled car we came to conclusion that one of the best ways probably would be to get the LHD pedal set, fit them to the RHD pedal box making a bend in pedals most likely by cutting them and welding a piece of metal in middle to move them more to the right side to fit in footwell.

Default Pedal Box

Well I decided to contact Tozo in America today to get some advice on the pedal cluster....and how he fit the hydraulic line and these are the pics he sent.

My plan is to get a rhd pedal cluster and make it into the picture below....then it is a case of making space for the clutch pedal....lets see how it goes....

The pictures by the way are awesome and I m sure will be a great help...

Thanks for the pictures.
The problem with the RHD pedal box is that the opening & mounting point for the brake booster is on the opposite side to the LHD pedal box, right in the way of where the clutch pedal master cylinder should go. I'm not saying its impossible but its going to be a really tight squeeze.
On the positive note, Tozo's custom over-centre spring for the clutch pedal looks like exactly what we need, because there is no way the huge, wide LHD over-centre spring will fit on the RHD pedal box.
Also, the brake pedal spring mounting bracket needs to be cut off and moved to the other side of the brake booster well.
In the picture is a RHD pedal box, with the LHD brake pedal held in place to show where it could potentially be fitted as a clutch pedal. However both the brake pedal and LHD brake pedal bushings would need to be cut down to fit on the remainin space of the pedal shaft.
There is nothing behind the plastic foot rest, plenty of space for the clutch pedal, but no space to rest your foot.
Ideally I would like to keep a smaller version of the foot rest, but that would require bending the gas pedal to the right, reducing the (overly wide) fuse cover, bending the RHD brake pedal to the right and cutting down its rubber mounting plate so the smaller LHD brake pedal rubber pad can be fitted instead, and using a second RHD brake pedal as the clutch. I beleive this could also be possible keeping a small footrest, but with pedal spacings reduced to about 5cm (may be too tight). See last picture for a stiched together picture of the shifted narrowed pedals idea, possibly enough room for small foot rest.

Personally, my plan is to ask Grizz from Unit 20 his opinion how its best to design the pedal box and if he is willing to put it together (I'm no engineer and as IT said I dont want anything to brake, feet can exert a lot of force). I need something else fixing soon so when I get booked in I'll just take all the pedal bits to him and see what he says.
