A8 MMI Update - A Walkthrough

its possible, is this a brand new unit or one that was fitted in another 8 before?,
do you have any old scans that show the telephone coding?

It was from another 8.

Neil has a scan from our last meet. It has not been re-coded since the install as none of the instructions have stated that it is required. I thought it was only because I needed the software update.

i found some more info after the vagcom scan

there is reference to strange chararacters showing up as below

They tend to say that it means the module is fried but there is one reference to it being possibly caused by the update cds, it might be worth getting a proper audi disk 2 and trying again before you rip it out

I will be up at the Stokesley meet, I might see if someone has an original to bring with them. I have re-tried my install and it did not change after your updates - however after the changes my voice control no longer works - maybe that can be sorted while I am up there.
