Just found this wiring loom in my boot, any ideas what it is for?

Hmm, some more investigation required then. I can't see a socket anywhere within the cable's reach that it could plug into.

My rear view camera (aftermarket, not Audi) suddenly stopped working a couple of months ago and I've not got round to diagnosing the problem yet. Excuse my incompetence but would it be for that? Or would that camera just be simply wired in to activate when the car is put in reverse?

I would assume you have had some aftermarket module fitted if the camera comes on the mmi automagically when you select reverse. As the video gets routed to the mmi when reverse is selected.
